Surface Protection

OSENC Epoxy Coating Systems for NdFeB Magnets

OSENC selects the coating stack around the actual exposure and dimensional requirements. We do not use one generic “epoxy” specification for every project.

NdFeB + EpoxyDirect epoxy protection for projects requiring a dark protective finish, humidity resistance and improved surface protection.
NdFeB + Ni-Cu-Ni + EpoxyComposite protection that combines a metallic underlayer with an epoxy top layer where the project requires a different corrosion and surface protection route.
Enhanced Composite ProtectionFor salt water, long-term immersion or more demanding environments, OSENC uses a higher-level coating or encapsulation strategy rather than treating standard epoxy as a permanent seal.
Temperature is defined at magnet level. OSENC does not use a generic coating temperature rating as the finished magnet operating temperature. Magnet Grade, Geometry, Magnetic Circuit and Coating System are reviewed together. High-temperature projects use the matching H / SH / UH / EH material family.
Thickness, Tolerance & Corrosion Reference

Epoxy Coating Thickness, Finished Tolerance and Salt-Spray Test Reference

Epoxy coating performance cannot be reduced to one corrosion-resistance slogan. OSENC separates coating thickness, finished dimensional tolerance and environmental test performance so each requirement can be released and inspected independently.

Engineering ParameterOSENC ReferenceRelease Boundary
Spessore del rivestimento epossidico15–40 μmConfirmed production range; final target is set from the drawing, protection requirement and dimensional stack-up.
Coating Thickness ToleranceCurrent engineering reference ±3 μmProvisional. It must be confirmed in the quotation or sample validation plan before production release.
Standard Finished Tolerance±0.10 mmApplied to the finished epoxy-coated part.
Tight Finished Tolerance±0.05 mmUsed for suitable geometries where fit and assembly clearance require tighter control.
Minimum Coated MagnetCurrent engineering reference Ø1 × 0.5 mmProvisional. Final feasibility depends on geometry, magnetization, coating build, handling and sample validation.
Published salt-spray reference: 5% NaCl solution at 35°C under continuous spray. No visible rust was observed after 24 hours. Localized corrosion began on individual samples after 48–72 hours. After 408 hours, corrosion remained concentrated mainly at corners and edges. Average mass loss was 0.907%.

This salt-spray result is a published test reference for the tested samples and conditions. It is not a universal service-life guarantee for every epoxy-coated magnet. Geometry, edge condition, coating stack, substrate preparation, assembly damage and exposure conditions can change corrosion behavior.

Applicazioni

Where OSENC Uses Epoxy Coated NdFeB Magnets

Epoxy coated magnets are a strong fit for OEM and industrial projects where the NdFeB surface needs additional protection from humidity, moisture or intermittent water exposure and the coating can remain intact during assembly and service.

  • Sensors and compact electronic assemblies
  • Industrial fixtures and positioning components
  • Automation equipment and enclosed mechanisms
  • OEM products exposed to humidity or intermittent moisture
  • Assemblies where a black, white, grey or custom protective finish is required

For weak acid, weak alkali, oil or cleaning-media exposure, OSENC matches the coating system to the chemical type, concentration, temperature and exposure time instead of using one broad “chemical resistant” claim.

When We Use a Different Protection Strategy

OSENC does not force standard epoxy into applications where the failure mode is obvious. When the service condition exceeds the practical boundary of a conventional epoxy surface layer, we move the project to a more suitable coating or encapsulation system.

Continuous Abrasion
Sliding contact can wear through the protective layer. We use a protection route designed for repeated friction.
Repeated Impact
Impact and magnet-to-magnet collision increase the risk of edge chipping and coating cracking.
Severe Scratching
Scratches can expose NdFeB below the coating. Assembly contact points are reviewed before production.
Long-Term Aggressive Exposure
Long-term seawater, strong chemical or immersion projects move to an enhanced composite coating or encapsulation solution.

Epoxy Coated Magnet Quality Control and Inspection

Epoxy protection only works when the finished part meets the drawing and the coating remains continuous. OSENC therefore controls finished dimensions, coating thickness, surface integrity, adhesion and magnetization as part of the finished-part inspection route. Confirmed coating range is 15–40 μm; finished dimensional tolerance is ±0.10 mm standard and ±0.05 mm tight for suitable geometries.

FINISHED-PART CONTROL

Finished Dimension Inspection

L / W / D / T and other critical dimensions are inspected after coating so the part is controlled in the same state in which the customer receives and assembles it.
